‘Summer Party’ Kestrel Alternate Fates Lore

WHO’S DAVE?

Wait. Krul says he surfed in to save me? SAW didn’t wait thirty minutes after eating his weight in tacos to get in the water? And now Phinn’s reporting himself a hero because he tossed a floaty donut in my general direction?

Nah.

Look, I’m all for equal opportunity, but these guys are the kind of cartoon characters who look into a gun barrel to check for bullets. I can’t even have a nice snorkel without dudes splashing into the water with their heads full of bravado and the CPR poster they glanced at once. Dave could’ve gotten hurt.

What do you mean, Who’s Dave? Dave is my shark. He washed up ashore as a pup and I rescued him, and he’s been my buddy ever since. I take him for walks… I mean swims… every afternoon. I give him belly rubs and he escorts me and my spear gun into the best tuna hideouts. Freshest sushi ever.

I do like how SAW thinks that squirting water into a shark’s eye will hurt it. Cool story, bro. I’m not sharing my sashimi with any of them.

The end

Samuel Ability Reveal

  • Vainglory
  • |

Samuel_splash

Samuel is a dark mage that specializes in not only controlling zones, but advancing and breaking them. He is able to create a large creeping field of evil that both augments his powers and damages foes. As a high DPS hero, he wields two wands with gunslinger-like speed. He also has some great area of effect, draining energy/life and sleep abilities that round out his fearsome repertoire.

header_features_new

Samuel_perkCorrupted Genius (Heroic Perk)

After 6 seconds, Samuel’s next basic attack fires a bolt of dark power at the target, dealing bonus crystal damage. This attack restores some health and energy.

Samuel_AMalice & Verdict (A)

Samuel fires two quick shots from his wands at a target location that impact on the first enemy hit. Samuel can move between the shots. If Samuel is standing inside the field from Drifting Dark, this ability is empowered. While empowered, the shots move faster, travel farther, deal additional damage and burst upon impact dealing damage in a small area. In addition, the cooldown for this ability is significantly reduced.

Samuel_bDrifting Dark (B)

Samuel creates a large field of darkness that slowly drifts forward, damaging enemies who stand inside it. If Samuel also stands inside, he heals for a small amount for each affected target.

Samuel_cOblivion (C)

After a short delay, Samuel summons a phantasm at the target location, which puts nearby enemies to sleep. Enemies inflicted are unable to move or act. Dealing direct damage to a sleeping enemy with an attack or ability will wake them up.

Check back for news and updates about Samuel as we approach Update 1.21’s release.

Summer Party Phinn Alternate Fate: ‘The Lifesaver’

“Was me who saved the pretty girl from the shark, even though Muscles and Zombie over there want the credit. I saw the shadow of that toothy beauty from the deck of my boat and did what any good captain would do: threw the lifesaver out. Of course the boat was way off in the deep water, but I can throw pretty far when I put my mind to it. Was a nice change, saving a pretty girl instead of stealing her for once.” —Phinn

Boss Mom leads The People into the mouth of Churnguard Industries…

Post Churn-times junkheaps need fearless leaders. ‘Fury’ Rona Tier III spins, slashes and leaps onto The Fold with an all-new look, updated animations and furious effects.

CHECK OUT HER IN-GAME FOOTAGE & 3D MODEL:

https://youtu.be/QCbLQmmVUHE

SKIN HIGHLIGHTS:

  • All-new animations: chainsaw flipping, crazy kicking, Red Mist spinning, critical attacking and base recalling
  • Into the Fray: Smacks glowing skull-shaped cracks in the ground from which circular saw blades emerge
  • Foesplitter: Turns on her chainsaws, causing flying sparks and blood-red effects
  • Trophies from her fallen enemies: Adagio’s plucked feathers and SAW’s mask!
  • Punk-rock, post-apocalyptic style

‘FURY’ RONA ALTERNATE FATE:

Read Part I: Maaaaaaagie!
Read Part II: A New Sheriff In Town

Finder’s Keepers

“So what if the Bird Man has ownt it since forever?” sang Rona, way loud. The People crowded shoulder-to-shoulder, Cutters crouched by the chain-link fence chip-chopping away at it bottom-up, leaping back when they got buzzed. Beyond, Churnguard Industries was a shiny, chrome-shuttered fortress, the only thing that’d been fixed up after the Churn Times. “What’s our motto?”

“Finder’s keepers!” cried The People jammed up by the gate, holding whatever spiky-blasty-bangy-fireball weapons they’d created themselves in the Junkheap. Rat Rods idled at the fore, reinforced and decorated all over with spikes and scrap and superglued toys. Rona paced back and forth, a chainsaw in each hand. “Rumor is, the Bird Man has a buncha grunts to do his fighting for him. Boss Mom would never sit back and watch The People fight!” She yanked down both arms, hitching the triggers of the chainsaws; the ignitions lit and the rusty chains spun loud and the thick oily fuel fumes mixed up with the Rat Rod exhaust to wash over The People like a foul baptism.

“Finders keepers!” screamed Rona as the fences curled up to the coiled barbed wire above. She stomped her spiked boots through the nearest gate hole and ran into the yard, face contorted with joyful rage, tongue out. The Rat Rods bashed through the gate on either side of her.

A shell blasted through the windshield of one, blew it to smithereens.

One of the compound’s shiny garage doors was open. Square in the middle was a big grunt of a guy, all camo and muscle, wearing a pre-Churn soldier uniform and mask, big enough to hold a squad automatic weapon loaded with explosive shells on his shoulder.

BLAM! The weapon fired off again, took out another Rod. The grunt took the massive kickback with a little bend of the back knee. “Gotcher breakfast, love,” he crowed.

Rona sprinted, head-down-eyes-up, then jumped belly-first, smoking chainsaws making bright sparking arcs. She slammed full-body into the grunt, his gun held up under her arm. “Gotcher ego, darling,” she cooed in his ear. The gun coughed out its shells all worthless behind her. She kicked him down and sliced off his trigger arm.

Boss Mom wasn’t often given to quiet moments of contemplation but she paused over the downed grunt, staring at the metal and wire poking out of what should’ve been a mangled-up rotator cuff. Rona squatted way down, ripped off the grunt’s mask and squinted at the grunt’s blinking red and black eyes.

Another grunt, identical to the first, came out into the light. Another appeared, then another, all with big freaking guns on their shoulders, surrounding the Boss Mom with faces obscured behind uniform masks.

The People raced into position around the Rods that had made it through the shell bursts, clubs and guns and cannons and super-sharps aimed.

Rona wiggled her brows. “You robot boys have a new mama now!” she screeched, and behind her The People growled and cheered and spat loogies. “Finders keepers, popinjays!” screamed the Boss Mom, and she leaned back, spun like a nightmare ballerina, a joyful flurry of pain, the chainsaws held out wide, saw blades splitting the robots right down the middle. The grunts opened fire, blew each other apart across their circle.

“Boss Mom! Boss Mom!” chanted the front line as they jammed and stomped each other to get at the action, battering and slicing at grunt bot after grunt bot as they poured out from the Churnguard hangar. The air was an eardrum-ruining cacophony of bullet blasts and Rod engine revs and squad automatic weapon coughing, smoke stinging the eyeballs and torches lighting up spray paint in every murderous color of the rainbow until the grunts stopped coming.

Rona climbed the pile of half-metal, half-bloody bits that had been the Churnguard army and screamed at the sky. “Come out, Bird Man! This is mine now! I’m Churnguard Boss! I’m gonna sip tea from your skull and wear your pretty-pretty feathers in my hair!”

Another shiny chrome garage door opened, nice and slow, and The People cheered.

 justinsaneINTERVIEW WITH JUSTINSANE

Rona wears the bones of her enemies in her default skin, so I brought that over to her Fury Rona design. For Tier III, she has hunted and defeated other Vainglory heroes: She wears Adagio’s feathers in her hair and has decorated her armor with SAW’s mask.

I always wanted to design a character with dual-wielding chainsaws. It’s the most badass thing I can think of. She wears a lot of pyramid studs and has giant truck spikes on her boots. She’s rough and jagged like a shark; if you run into her, you’re going to get torn up. She’s a scary punk rock berserker all up in your face.

‘BROKEN DOLL’ ALPHA TIER I ALTERNATE FATE:

The Loud Voice & The Quiet Voice

She’s going to come back. She always comes back, and at first her mind is fuzzy and she doesn’t remember our names, but then she remembers and she plays with us again. Her mama put us all up in the attic in a box so I set up the teacups here. I took the chipped one like always, the one she threw the first time she had to go away. She never likes to go away but her mama cries and her daddy carries her and we all watch, very still like she taught us until she comes back. When she comes back, she dresses me up like she dressed when she was away, and she plays like the grownups and in a deep-deep voice she asks me questions like

Why do you think that you can read minds?

and then she pulls my strings to make me dance and I am her and in her own voice she says

You have two voices, loud and quiet, and the loud one asks questions and the quiet one says it’s past your break time and your rent is due.

Then in her deep-deep voice she asks

Do you ever think about hurting people?

and then she sings

It’s not my fault the carving knife is so shaaaarp! It’s not my fault the carving knife is so shaaaarp!

And in her deep-deep voice she says

Eat the candy; it tastes like cherry and makes the thoughts go away. That’s a good girl, eat it all up.

and she smashes red-hots into my face.

It’s been a long time since she went away, but she’s going to come back because she loves us and there’s no tea where she goes, and there are grownups with loud voices and quiet voices, and we only have quiet voices, very very quiet.

MAKE THE MOST OF WEEKEND SUMMER CARD PARTIES

  • Vainglory

  • Jul 29, 2016

160728_SummerCards-WSAW_Marquee

We’ve seen a lot of great enthusiasm and turnout for Vainglory’s Summer events. But there’s been some confusion from players about the Weekend Summer Card Parties. In order to clear up the skies a bit, let’s address the opportunities for rewards available to players throughout the weekend.

WHAT ARE THE WEEKEND REWARDS?

  • 1st win = guaranteed Rare card
  • 2nd win = guaranteed Epic card
  • 3rd win = guaranteed Summer Party Krul card
  • 4th win = guaranteed Summer Party SAW card

Weekend Summer Card Parties are an opportunity to get increase your card collection and get some awesome new skins. In 1.19, each Saturday and Sunday players could win a random Rare card with their first win, a random Epic card with their second win and a Summer Krul card with their third. But now with Wednesday’s release of 1.20, there are even more rewards to be had. Players who win a fourth game during these Weekend Summer Card Parties will win a Summer SAW card. In essence, the more you play, the better your rewards.

WHEN CAN I GET REWARDS FOR WINS?

  • First weekend event: 5PM PDT Friday – 5PM PDT Saturday
  • Second weekend event: 5PM PDT Saturday – 5PM PDT Sunday
  • Pro tip: Use your Summer Chest timer to track when each event will begin & end.

The weekend isn’t one day long, and neither is this party. Let’s say you won four games on Saturday and got both a Summer Krul and a Summer SAW card. Great. Well you can come back on Sunday and again get Summer Krul and SAW cards for your third and fourth wins, respectively. Two weekend events. Two opportunities to get fantastic rewards. These events run on the same timer as your (unrelated) Summer Chest, so you can track the time remaining in each weekend event to make sure you get in your wins before it resets.

HOW DO I UNLOCK A SUMMER PARTY SKIN?

Unlock the Krul or SAW seasonal skin by collecting 50 cards in the following ways:

  • Get cards from the special SAW ICE Box.
  • Earn Sunlight from matches to level up. (Some Summer levels will automatically give you a seasonal card.)
  • Claim Daily Summer Chest rewards, which will sometimes include a Summer Krul or SAW card, especially if you’ve leveled up your chest a lot.
  • Complete Quests: It’s possible you’ll score a Summer card in your quest chest.
  • Maybe get really lucky from a Summer Krul or SAW card drop post-match
  • Card Parties! Play every weekend all Summer season long to get a max of 2 Summer Party Krul cards AND two Summer Party SAW cards per weekend.
  • Or, simply purchase a seasonal skin outright with ICEWhen the Summer ends, the skins are gone!

The Weekend Summer Card Parties are a great way to get not only important cards for your collection, but also get the new Summer Krul and SAW skins. In order to unlock Summer Krul or SAW, you’ll need 50 cards for each or unlock a skin with ICE. Of course, Weekend Summer Card Parties are just one way to unlock them.

Summer won’t last forever, and sadly neither will these opportunities to party! So play every weekend to get the cards you need for these special seasonal skins.

MORE WAYS TO SOAK UP SUN

A lot of players told us it was confusing to receive Sunlight in some situations and not others, along with much sadness that Battle Royale loses gave nothing but a little shade. In response, we’ve made it easier to get Sunlight (while still keeping minimal abuse prevention measures in place). So lather on that sunscreen. There’s going to be a lot more Sunlight in 1.20.

    • Decreased minimum match lengths required for Sunlight:
      • Ranked matches: Gain Sunlight after 10 mins (down from 15 mins)
      • Casual matches: Gain Sunlight after 10 mins (down from 15 mins)
      • Co-op Bots Standard: Gain Sunlight after 7 mins (down from 10)
    • Added Sunlight payouts to all bot modes and to all losses
    • Yes, get Sunlight from Battle Royale losses.

BOTS FOR ONE AND ALL

Summer season is about fun experiences for players of all kinds. Now, intelligent bots are getting in on the summer fun, challenging players across the experience spectrum. Try bots at five difficulty levels (Very Easy, Easy, Medium, Hard and Very Hard) and find what’s right for you and your friends. Also, expect the Hard and Very Hard bots to get smarter and even harder to beat in future updates.

BOTS FOR BEGINNERS

Bot mode: Solo | Recommended difficulty: Very Easy

For new players just joining the game, Very Easy bots will be a great introduction to the basic mechanics of combat and teamwork. Since the bots are designed to behave like humans, they’ll follow tactical commands, rally at specified points and even use social pings to express sadness or congratulations depending on how your match is going.

BOTS FOR MENTORING

Bot mode: Party | Recommended difficulty: Easy

Have a friend you want to introduce to Vainglory but concerned about dropping them into intense matches at your skill level? Now you can use the PARTY menu option, invite that player and a friend, then set up a match against bots at your desired difficulty. As that player becomes more skilled, you can increase the difficulty of the bots. So, invite a new friend to Vainglory, grab someone from your Friends list and throw a bot party.

Standard_Coop

BOTS BY CHOICE

Bot mode: Co-op | Matchmaker automatically sets bot difficulty

Some players simply prefer a challenging bot experience over PvP matches because they don’t have to worry about dealing with other humans. And you know what? That’s cool too. The Matchmaker will populate your game with opponents on par with your skills. The better you get, the more challenging bots you’ll encounter. See if you can defeat a team of Very Hard bots!

BOTS FOR EXPERIMENTATION

Bot mode: Solo | Recommended difficulty: Hard

Just unlocked a new hero or want to try out a different item build? Great, go for a test run against some bots. Setting up a bot match is a great, low-risk way to sharpen skills without the pressure of a live player match.

NEW: When playing a Battle Royale match with solo bots, you can select your hero while battling random bot enemies.

KILL STREAKS!

This one’s in honor of all the hard carries out there. For the first time ever in Vainglory, receive recognition from killing multiple enemy heroes in close succession. There’s nothing quite like hearing Vainglory’s iconic announcer declare “Double Kill!” or “TRIPLE KILL!” because of your outplays.

New announcer kill streaks:

  • Double Kill!
  • Triple Kill!

LOW PRIORITY QUEUE

Through player feedback, we’ve worked to improve our system of punishment for players who abandon matches, ping rudely, troll, dodge Hero Select and have seriously negative karma. The new Low Priority Queue serves to keep repeat offenders away from you — while giving them an opportunity to earn their way back into the mainstream.

  • The Low Priority Queue adds additional time to matchmaking for a set number of matches.
  • Repeat offenders earn additional amount of queue time and increased number of probationary matches.
  • Completing matches earns points toward returning to normal queue.

INTRODUCING: TREANTS

A new monster replaces the jungle heal camps in Update 1.20: the Treant. The Treant is also a healer, and when it dies, it will launch a green heal projectile to the last-hitter. Look for this cosmetic upgrade in the jungle.

  • Heal camp model upgraded to new “Treants.”
  • Same healing effect as before
  • Projectile from heal camp to last-hitter (similar to Fountain of Renewal projectile)
  • Experience down from 29 to 27

REDESIGNED PLAY & MARKET MENUS

  • Get into games faster with menus that remember your preferences.
  • Easily find deals & exclusives.

NON-UNIQUE TEAM & GUILD TAGS

Longtime players got the guild and team tags they wanted, but over time as the player base has grown, it has become increasingly difficult to get the tag you want … or even find an unclaimed tag at all! Starting in Update 1.20, team and guild tags will no longer be unique, so players can freely choose the tag they really want.

  • Guild & team tags are no longer unique.
  • Simply select the name you want when creating a guild or team.
  • Existing guilds & teams will be able to change their tags starting in Update 1.21 (next update).

COMMUNITY QUESTS ARE HERE

In 1.19, we first announced that we were seeking community suggestions for quest ideas. We’ve been really impressed by these player-sourced submissions so far and can’t wait to hear more. Look for quests with the “Community” title and tap to the detailed view to see the player shout-out for the idea.

The first set of community-suggested quests are included in 1.20, and this is just the beginning. These initial Community quests focus on play based on specific hero roles, which is a great way to collect extra rewards as you utilize your hero roster.

HERO ROLE COMMUNITY QUESTS

  • Play a Warrior (Rona, Glaive, Joule, Ozo, Krul, Alpha or Fortress). Yes, Fortress is considered a warrior even though he’s a roamer.
  • Play a Protector (Lyra, Lance, Catherine, Ardan, Phinn or Adagio)
  • Play an Assassin (Koshka, Taka or Blackfeather)
  • Play a Mage (Skaarf, Petal, Reim or Celeste)
  • Play a Sniper (Ringo, Kestrel, SAW, Vox or Skye)

Submit your Community Quests ideas here. Punchpop will pick a few every update to make into real quests. Note: There are many more Community Quests already selected and in development for future releases.

MORE FLEXIBLE QUESTS

We’ve heard your feedback and have now made quests easier to complete. Now, all Hero Quests can be completed in any game mode.

NEW QUEST TYPES

  • Play Solo Bots
  • Win Solo Bots

Summer_Daily_Chest

MORE DAILY SUMMER CHEST REWARDS

  • Increased number of cards in a chest by +1 for all chests except for Legendary chests.
  • Now, all chests have at least two cards in them.
  • Increased likelihood of getting cards.

GAMEPLAY CHANGES

EXPERIENCE

With the change to experience and the addition of ambient gold, some adjustments to experience distribution were in order. —Zekent

  • Experience gain changed from: One – 100% Two – 85/40% Three – 65/30/30%
  • To:  One – 100% Two – 65/60% Three – 45/40/40%

HOLD TO USE MINI-MAP

Too many players were accidentally “snapping” to the mini-map during fights. Now, players need to tap and hold down the mini-map before the screen will move.

  • Tap-and-hold the mini-map to pan over the Halcyon fold map like before.
  • To turn on instant mini-map snapping, go to Vainglory app settings.

TACTICAL PING COOLDOWNS

The earlier ping cooldown changes dramatically reduced “rude ping” spam, but it had the unintended consequence of preventing legitimate shot-calling in the late game. We hope this addresses cooldown concerns. —PlayoffBeard

  • Changed ping cooldowns from 3 pings within 6 seconds to 4 pings within 8 seconds

header_hero_balance_changes_new

petalPETAL

Petal is finally firming in the competitive meta, but her kit could still be rather difficult for players to use. We wanted Petal’s abilities to be more player-friendly and to give players more flexibility with Spontaneous Combustion. —Zekent

TRAMPOLINE

  • Allows you to choose jump direction (like Vox’s Sonic Zoom)
  • No longer require Petal to be standing on a seed to activate. Instead, this ability costs energy and instantly places a seed on the ground from which Petal leaps
  • No longer recalls all munions back to Petal

SPOTANEOUS COMBUSTION

    • Petal now only commands one munion to explode at a time
    • This ability has 3 charges; one charge every 35-30-25 seconds.
    • Button is disabled when no munions are available, preventing you from wasting charges

ENERGY

    • No longer gains 0-150% bonus regeneration based on current energy amount
    • Energy down from 1200 to 410-718
    • Energy regen down from 8.88 to 3.21-5.30
    • Seeds cost 60-65-70-75-80
    • Trampoline costs 80-85-90-95-100
    • Spontaneous Combustion costs 40

MUNIONS

  • Munion health changed from 110-200-290-380-560 + 30% CR to 100-170-240-310-450 + 25%CR
  • Defense per munion up from 20-25-30-35-45 to 30-35-40-45-50

koshkaKOSHKA

These changes move Koshka away from being a bruiser and more toward a mobile assassin. We’ve been testing a more dramatic rework internally, but these changes may already make Koshka front-of-mind again. —SurpriseBirthday

HEROIC PERK

  • Whenever Koshka deals damage with an ability, she gains +2 move speed for 4 seconds
  • No longer has cooldown reduction on basic attacks, instead, her cooldowns have all been reduced.
