This Summer, we celebrate everything we love about the season: the sun, the sand, the waves … and the parties! You’ll experience this through an entirely new progression system designed for all players — regardless of whether you prefer Bots, Battle Royale, Casuals or Ranked. You’ll also bask in new limited-edition Summer skins with outrageously cool effects, animations and models. It’s going to be the biggest Vainglory party ever, and we saved a prime beach chair and cool beverage just for you.


Introducing the First Exclusive: Summer Party Krul!

The first skin to join the fun is Summer Party Krul, arriving in-game June 24. You can unlock this seasonal skin with ICE or through collecting special Summer Krul cards from post-match spoils, chests, a special ICE box and Summer events.

This swimwear skin features:

  • Surfboard for a sword
  • “Surf’s Up!” boardshorts
  • Shaka sign (hang loose) Weakness stacks
  • Surfing Dead Man’s Rush & sprint activation

Mystery Future Summer Skins

Updates 1.20 and 1.21 will also feature exclusive Summer skins of increasing rarity and difficulty to achieve. Summer Party Krul will remain available for purchase and card crafting throughout the entire Summer season (through Update 1.21). The future mystery skins will also remain available until the end of Summer.

Samsung Galaxy Vainglory Invitational at E3

To continue our busy esports season, we have some exciting news! Presenting the Samsung Galaxy Vainglory Invitational, which will be played and broadcast live from the Samsung booth at E3 in Los Angeles on June 15-16. Four incredible Vainglory teams will fly in from around the world to battle for international bragging rights in front of a live audience. We’ll also be hosting “Community vs. Community” Battle Royale matches, plus you can meet a bunch of devs in person at E3. Tune in to the fun on twitch.tv/vainglory or drop by the Samsung booth to meet us!

The four invited teams are: TSM (North America), G2 esports (Europe), Hunters (China) and Invincible Armada (Korea). Don’t miss out on the fun — and expect it to be fast-paced, competitive and loud.

Drop by to meet Vainglory devs and win some SWAG. We’ll be at the booth from morning to evening from Tuesday, June 14 to Thursday, June 16, and we’d love to hang out with our community. INTERVIEW WITH SUPER EVIL ARTIST NOXII

I combined the raven and the starry aspects to show how Celeste is the Star Queen with the Storm Queen’s power. The stars around her skirt show that she’s so full of cosmic power now that it’s leaking out uncontrollably. I looked at a lot of high fashion feather collars; I wanted her to look modest but still provocative. The lace on the skirt helps transition the feathers to the leather and makes it look regal. My favorite part is her extravagant black organza hair decoration. She has built a black hole onto her default staff. She’s holding onto what she used to be, but now she has the power of creation and destruction.

“I don’t think she’s evil; I think she’s pragmatic. She thinks she’s doing the right thing. She may burn some bridges, but the people close to her know how compassionate she is. Vox will probably try to help her see why what she’s doing isn’t good.

“With every splash, I experiment with painting techniques and challenge myself to amp it up. I learned a lot from painting the metal in Bonecruncher Phinn’s splash art. My faces are usually more cartoony, but Celeste’s hair and face are soft. I chose a dynamic pose with a symmetrical composition to emphasize Star Queen Celeste’s power.”

‘STAR QUEEN’ CELESTE III LORE

Outside the palace and all along the continent, the independent kingdoms that had once all been the purview of the Storm Queen raged at war. Nobles took up arms against one another; commonfolk rose up against the nobles whose battles burned their farms. The Captain of the Navy laid in convalescence and the Star Queen remained palace-bound for her safety.

One night, as she pored alone over war maps for the thousandth time, she heard whispers echoing her name. She followed the sounds through twisting hallways to an ornate locked door.

Try your key, she heard from the other side of the door, and so she slid the key to the queen’s chambers into the lock, and the door swung open wide.

The aviary was a narrow, tall courtyard around which the rest of the palace had been built. It was open to the sky, and perches covered in ravens’ nests protruded from the walls. She walked out into a garden, her bare feet sinking in wild grass and flowers, her neck craned up as the ravens glided down in wide circles to light on stone fountains and benches and on her shoulders too, and when she held out her fingers one of them curled his talons around them. She should have been afraid but she smiled, delighted at the hefty weight of them, at their majestic size.

The queen is dead, came a whisper from one shoulder.

Long live the queen, whispered the one on her hand.

“Why can I hear you?” she asked, turning to look at the hundreds of dark birds gathered to greet her.

The queen can hear us, said one behind her.

You are the queen, reminded another.

“And who are you?” she asked.

I am Vyn, said one.

I am Vyn, said another.

We are Vyn, said a chorus of them.

“Very well, Vyn” she said, running a thumb over the head of the raven on her fingers, soothing his eyes closed. “You beauties are free now.”

We belong to the queen, whispered one.

You are the queen, repeated another.

If you wish, you may have our eyes, came a whisper from her hand. I will show you. And Celeste’s vision blurred, then went black, and she felt herself flying high over a golden Gythian tower. She saw the glint of it, then the wear in the ancient construction. She circled, her wings spread, weightless atop the warm breeze; it was a dream of flying but better, for she had never seen the world in such vivid, bright color. Into a high window she flew, perching high on the molding near a ceiling fresco. She poked her beak at an itch under her wing until she heard voices far below. A group of people in pretty robes gathered over a map and argued.

“Ah, it is my advisor,” she said in her trance. “Elizar!” But her voice came out in a raspy caw that the people below did not hear.

“… successor has been found in Taizen Gate, and we are sending you, Elizar,” said a woman.

“I’m too old for this, and so is Gythia,” said Elizar. “Let the Storm Queen, or whatever it is Louisa is calling herself these days, deal with her lands as she sees fit.”

“Her ravens’ eyes turn toward us and her army has never been stronger. There is none better than you at raising people to power with Gythia’s best interests at the fore. Advise her to give independence to her neighboring kingdoms. They will turn on one another and collapse, and we shall have a necessary foothold on the continent.”

Celeste snapped herself away from the ravens’ dream. Her lips pursed and the ravens cackled. “Is this vision true?” she asked in a measured tone.

It is a memory, said one.

A story we can tell of what we saw, said another.

“I trusted him,” she said, her jaw tight. “He lied.”

Everybody lies.

But you can know when they lie.

You can see our colors.

There is nowhere you cannot fly.

Pay the price, hissed one.

Let us take them, and we will be your eyes.

Give us your eyes.

“So the queen before me was not so blind after all.” Celeste petted the head of the raven, one long stroke after another. She nodded up at the stars, the last thing she saw with her own eyes. “I must know the truth if I am to rule,” she said. “Take them.”

The ravens descended, screaming.

With his unique polearm-and-shield combat style, Lance breaks enemy lines and creates opportunities for allies. Lance can build crystal or utility items to excel in his role as a protector, or he can build weapon items to deal more damage during battle.

Lance will be unlockable with ICE only for the first 7 days. Afterward, you will be able to unlock Lance with ICE or Glory.

PARTISAN’S TECHNIQUE (Heroic Perk)

Lance’s basic attacks damage every target along their path. However, his attacks are slow to land and attack speed is less effective on him. Instead of energy, Lance uses stamina to activate his abilities. Purchasing items with energy and energy regeneration increases his stamina and stamina regeneration.

IMPALE (A)

Lance strikes through his opponents, dealing weapon damage and rooting them in place. If this attack hits at least one enemy, Lance will immediately recover from the ability. Overdrive: If this hits an enemy, it also resets the cooldown of Combat Roll.

GYTHIAN WALL (B)

Passive: Lance strafes around the enemy he has most recently attacked. While strafing, he reduces damage from the target’s direction by up to 50%.

Active: Lance sweeps opponents away with his polearm, dealing weapon damage and also stunning them if they collide with a wall or structure. Afterward, he holds his shield steadfast, greatly reducing incoming damage from the target direction by up to 90%. Overdrive: While active, Lance ignores all debuffs (from any direction).

COMBAT ROLL (C)

Lance rolls in the target direction. His next basic attack within 2 seconds will strike quickly, dealing bonus crystal damage.

We wanted a fun and engaging way for players to earn bonus loot while introducing different aspects of the game to new players. —Punchpop

Quests are new challenges awaiting you at all times in Vainglory. They range from proving your strength in-game to learning new things out of it. Whether it’s securing 75 kills from matches or winning a Battle Royale, there’s always more to achieve … and more rewards to earn. Each day, look forward to new, unique ways to win rewards, and expose hundreds of new quests by completing challenges and claiming prizes.

  • Complete quests regularly to unlock rewards.
  • Once the quest is completed, tap your quest to claim your prize!
  • After you claim your reward, a new quest will appear.
  • Check back often to find new quests.

NEW ACCOUNT PROGRESSION & CHESTS

We’ve made account progression more fun and meaningful by expanding it to 30 levels and rewarding players for each level achieved. For a new player just entering Vainglory, they’ll have a new chest to open at every mini-milestone through their Vainglory journey. For longtime players, it’s a whole lot of “level-completed” chests to open, plus 10 new levels to earn even more rewards.

  • Receive a chest each time your account goes up a level.
  • Veterans can immediately open chests for each level they previously achieved!
  • Progress bar in the app home page tracks your account level.
  • Level cap increased to 30 with new rewards for leveling up.

FIRST WIN / THIRD WIN / SINISTER SEVEN

While the interface no longer shows First Win of the Day, Third Win of the Day & Sinister Seven, these rewards still exist. We’re just in a transition period with the UI.

  • You will still receive daily rewards as expected, even though you can’t find the progress displays in 1.18.

AFK FORGIVENESS

Nothing feels worse than a player abandoning your match. And while we can’t give you that time back, we can protect your skill-tier progress when losing is clearly not your fault. 

  • If we pair you with someone who abandons the match, that match will not hurt your skill tier.
  • If your party was pre-made, AFK Forgiveness will not apply. Talk to your friend or team captain, or don’t invite that person back.
  • The person who AFK’d will still lose skill-tier progress (no forgiveness).
  • Additional restrictions to prevent abuse apply. 

XP BOOSTS

Look for new Account XP boosters in the Vainglory Market to open those account level chests faster!


GRAPHICAL SETTINGS (ANDROID)

  • Android players may now choose their graphics quality setting (Auto, High, Medium, Low) from a new drop-down menu.
  • Selecting a setting your device can’t handle may impact performance.

INTERVIEW WITH ART DIRECTOR CHAINSAW

As a kid, I was obsessed with which was the best fighter plane, interceptor, attack plane, all these different things. I expressed that in the Supersonic Skye skin system, giving her more variation to the theme. People who play Skye are protective of her, so I wanted to do honor to her and make her very aspirational. For me, that means mech upgrades. Supersonic Skye looks faster, more mobile and more lean. The “Black Eagles” Korean aerobatic team was a big inspiration.

REPRESENTING YOUR REGION – REWARDS AT STAKE

  • If Team Secret wins, every player in Europe region will get the in-game reward. Team Secret will also represent China region & Southeast Asia region, who would get the same prize.
  • If Team SoloMid wins, every player in North America region will get the in-game reward instead. TSM will also represent South America region & East Asia region, who would get the same prize.

WHAT’S THE REWARD?

Well, it’s really three rewards:

‘THE ARCHELIONS’

Lance’s people embrace a young man who has bought passage on their floating island…


Samuel emerged from his rented island room sullen, his cheeks gaunt, dressed all in black. He walked past hammocks where the locals napped away the hot afternoon, couples snoring together in a tangle of limbs, mothers curled around little children like shells around peas. Away from the dwellings he found a handful of goats gnawing on shrubs; honeybees dove through tall bamboo to rummage inside of flowering beans, zucchini and asparagus. In the garden it was difficult to believe that the island was the shell of the giant and ancient titanback named Archelon, floating his annual way around the world.

He followed a path through the tide pools where barefoot children sprinted over the slick bone surface, squatting to inspect the bright slugs, limpets, anemones, sea slugs and stars. A small child held a sea urchin in one hand, drawing out meat from its belly with deft fingers and slurping it up as he watched Samuel step with care. Older children looked after nests of eggs larger than their heads.

At the highest point of the island, the smell of food cooking set his stomach to growling. Locals milled about, poking at a grill, laying out baskets, cleaning up children. A giant carp smoked to a golden brown crisp on smoldering coals laid in the center, its stuffed belly open; clams and oysters and heaps of pickled seaweed lay in steaming piles around it.

“Take cover, ladies. A raincloud approaches,” called a voice, followed by ladies laughing. “Join us, Samuel.”

IslandBlossoms drifted down from a cherry tree under which sat a large man, two women and a basket of food. The three wore sarongs; the man’s was fuschia and wrapped round his waist. One of the women shaved his head with a straight razor. The other sat cross-legged, her hand outstretched, as the man manicured her nails.

Samuel paused in an awkward half-step before sitting at the edge of the shade. “I am afraid I do not know you.”

“You need not fear. I am Lance,” said the man. The woman pushed his ear forward to shave behind it. “Eat honey and cheese. It will sweeten you.”

“I will not eat today,” said Samuel.

“Are you sick?” asked the woman with the straight razor.

“No,” said Samuel. “Fasting preserves power and increases discipline.”

“You have all the rest of your lonely life to starve,” said the man. “How many days will you have for licking honey from the fingers of a beautiful lady?”

Samuel turned his blushing face away from the manicured woman, who dipped a finger in the honeypot with a sly smile. “Is she not one of your wives?”

“People are not possessions,” replied Lance.

“Are these not your children?” sputtered Samuel.

“The children belong to everyone, or rather, we belong to them.” The woman folded away her razor and a little boy slipped down from a branch onto Lance’s shoulders. “You will break your fast today, Sam. If you argue, we will take offense.”

“I prefer Samuel,” he said, but he could not refuse. He deposited a bit of fish into his basket and plucked meat from the fragile bones with his fingers like the others. Children crawled up on his legs and asked incessant questions. Lance made no move to save him from the onslaught, and before long Samuel could not help but chuckle.

After they had eaten, the crowd walked the long pathway down to the shell’s edge to watch the sea trolls hunt. They herded seals and held them under, drowning them before tossing them high in the air and catching them in their giant maws.

“I would not allow the children so close to those hunters,” said Samuel.

Lance kept an arm around Samuel’s stiff shoulder as though they were old friends. “The trolls come ashore once a year to lay eggs, and we care for them. In return, the trolls protect Archelon’s soft underbelly from predators, and we play together. Come, watch the jousts.”

At the shell’s edge, past the long line of docked barges, men tied woven saddles to the beasts’ great heads. Wearing bamboo armor and shields and wielding rattan lances, the men mounted the trolls and charged, their lances crashing into one another’s shields with startling cracks. Lance was the best of these knights; he took to the saddle as if born there, sending one opponent after another splashing into the water, his powerful arm locked around his weapon, a frightening grin spread across his face. His troll roared its pleasure and sprayed the onlookers with a wall of water from its slapping tail.

After the jousts, Samuel and Lance watched the moon rise together while the others wandered away. “How do you like our home?” asked Lance.

“It will not last,” said Samuel. “Archelon will not live forever.”

“The rings round the scutes tell us that Archelon has lived at least a thousand growth seasons, and he swims stronger than ever.”

“All things die.”

“Have faith, Sam.” Lance clapped the young man on his shoulder.

“That is no answer.”

“And yet, it is ever the correct one.”
